No Sew Scarf on hook

Craft can have a seasonal slant.  In winter, cosy things like scarfs, beanies, blankets and quilts are perfect projects.  Somehow, just the thought of these snuggly things can keep you feeling warm and fuzzy.

As we’re now well and truly entrenched in Melbourne’s cold, dark winter months, what better craft project than this No Sew Polar Fleece Scarf.  Why not add it to your list of easy, rainy-day projects to enjoy with the kids.

All you need is a 75 centimetre length of Polar Fleece fabric, a measuring tape or ruler, scissors and about 2 hours.

There are loads of gorgeous polar fleece fabrics to choose from out there.  The price point is perfect too.  At Spotlight the starting price is $5 per metre.  How sweet is this pattern.

The width of most polar fleece is 148 cm which is a must for this project.  Anyway – here’s how you make your very own No Sew Polar Fleece Scarf.

Instructions

No Sew Scarf Fabric Layout

Step One

Lay out fabric. Measure and cut your scarf to be 35 cm wide.  Then cut 24, ten cm wide strips (as shown) for tassels.

Step Two

Fold the narrow end of your scarf so there’s a 3 cm wide cuff. Cut small slits into the fold as shown (folding makes cutting the slits easier).  I’ve spaced the slits at approximately 3 cm intervals.  These holes will be where you insert your tassels

Step Three

Fold tassel strip in half and insert into hole.

Step Four

Feed tassel ends through loop.

Step Five

Tighten knot (Larks Head Knot) to ensure tassel remains secured to scarf.

Step Six

Continue this step until all slits are filled with tassels.  Repeat these steps on the other side of your scarf and that’s it, you’re done.
